Compare files byte by byte

Check whether two local files contain exactly the same bytes. File names and dates do not determine the result.

Choose both files to start the comparison.

How to compare two files

  1. Choose one file in each field.
  2. The tool compares their sizes and, if they match, compares the file contents byte by byte.
  3. Copy or download the report if you need it.

Example

Two files with different names can be identical if their binary contents match. Two files with the same name can still differ.

Limits

  • Each file can be up to 100 MB.
  • The tool checks exact binary equality; it does not explain differences inside a Word or PDF document.
  • Documents that look the same can contain different bytes because of formatting or metadata.

Processing and privacy

Files are read and compared in your browser and are not uploaded to the server. The report stays on the page until you close or reload it.
