Convert an image to grayscale
Create a monochrome copy of your image. Transparent areas are preserved and the result is exported as PNG.
How to use this tool
- Choose a color image.
- Create its grayscale version.
- Compare the previews, then download the PNG copy.
Example
Each pixel’s red, green and blue channels are converted to the same value; transparent areas remain transparent.
Limits and notes
The conversion uses a luminance approximation. It does not simulate professional printing or adjust document contrast. Input is limited to 20 MB and 25 megapixels.
Processing and privacy
Processing happens in this browser. The file is not sent to the server for editing. The site still loads its code and fonts through your usual connection. Close or reload the page to clear the preview; process the file again if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Are transparent areas preserved?
Yes. Transparent pixels stay transparent in the PNG copy.
Does this improve document contrast?
No. It converts colors to grayscale; it does not replace contrast correction or a readability check.
What can I download?
