Brazil overtime pay calculator
Enter monthly gross pay, your monthly work-hour divisor and overtime hours to estimate gross overtime pay under the assumptions shown. This tool is tailored to Brazil and is not an official payroll calculation.
Estimate overtime pay
How this estimate works
The hourly rate is monthly salary divided by the selected monthly divisor. Hours at 50% are estimated at 1.5 times that rate; hours at 100% at twice the rate. The tool then estimates weekly paid rest by dividing overtime pay by 25 working days and multiplying by 5 rest days. These are arithmetic assumptions, not a legal determination of the applicable premium or DSR.
Important limits
The Brazilian Constitution sets a minimum 50% premium for overtime, but a collective agreement or applicable rule may provide different terms. A 100% rate is a scenario you can model; it is not asserted here as the universal rate for every Sunday or holiday. The tool does not determine eligibility, night-work premiums, compensatory time, actual calendar days, habituality, variable pay or tax deductions. Check your employment terms and payroll statement.
FAQ
Why does the tool use 25 working days and 5 rest days?
This is a simplified 20% assumption for an estimate. The actual DSR calculation may depend on the calendar, holidays, pay arrangement, collective rules and the applicable case.
Is overtime always paid at 50%?
The Constitution establishes a minimum premium of 50% over the regular hourly rate. Collective bargaining or other applicable rules may set a higher rate.
Does work on a Sunday or holiday always mean 100% overtime?
This calculator lets you model hours at 100%, but does not decide which premium or compensatory rest applies. Brazilian rules may provide double pay for holiday work when no other day off is granted, subject to the specific case.
